Historical Context and Architecture

The name Naidi derives from the Ivatan words for "past settlement" (na) and "countryside/village" (idi). Historical records show that the hills were the location of Basco's early settlement before residents relocated closer to the coastline.

During the American colonial period and World War II, Naidi Hills served as a strategic wireless telegraph station. The ruins of American-era telegraph buildings still stand near the base of the lighthouse tower.

Built in the early 2000s, the lighthouse tower incorporates traditional Ivatan stone aesthetics, using locally gathered rubble limestone masonry for its base and lower column, topped by a red lantern room and viewing deck.
