Batan Island
Tayid Lighthouse (Mahatao)
Tayid Lighthouse is a hexagonal stone lighthouse situated atop a narrow coastal ridge in the municipality of Mahatao on South Batan Island. Constructed in the early 2000s alongside Basco Lighthouse and Sabtang Lighthouse, Tayid faces the Pacific Ocean to the east and overlooks the pasturelands of Racuh a Payaman.

Architectural Character and Setting
Unlike the round tower of Basco Lighthouse, Tayid Lighthouse features a distinct hexagonal (six-sided) masonry tower topped by a red lantern room and viewing deck.
The lighthouse was constructed using locally sourced limestone blocks at its base, designed to harmonize with traditional Ivatan masonry techniques while serving as a functional navigational beacon for vessels navigating the Pacific side of Batan Island.
What to See and Experience
1. Hexagonal Tower Viewpoint
The lighthouse sits on an elevated ridge accessible by a narrow walking trail through grass fields. Standing at the lighthouse grounds provides an unobstructed view of crashing Pacific waves below.
2. View of Diura Fishing Village
From the northern edge of the lighthouse trail, visitors can look down upon Diura Fishing Village, a traditional coastal settlement where Ivatan fishermen perform the annual Kapayvanuvanua ritual to mark the opening of the dibang (flying fish) fishing season.
3. Landscape Framing with Racuh a Payaman
Tayid Lighthouse provides one of the most celebrated photographic perspectives in Batanes when framed against the rolling green pastures of Racuh a Payaman in the background.
